Cost and payment

How much does it cost to have someone drive my vehicle cross country?

Most trips cost $0.75 to $1.25 per mile for the driver, the driver’s travel and any towing. New York to Florida is typically $1,000 to $1,400; New York to California is $1,900 to $2,500. Fuel and tolls are added at actual cost with receipts after delivery.

What is included in the price?

The driver, door to door; the driver’s travel to pickup and home from delivery; towing if needed; GPS monitoring by our office; photographs at pickup and delivery; premium AAA roadside coverage. Fuel and tolls are extra, at cost.

How do you estimate fuel costs?

For cars we use FuelEconomy.gov figures for your vehicle. For moving trucks we estimate about 8 miles per gallon for a 26-foot truck, about 5 when it is towing a vehicle, and 10 to 12 for smaller trucks. You pay the actual amount against receipts.

When and how do I pay?

A deposit is due before pickup. The rest of the base price, plus fuel and tolls at actual cost with receipts, is paid after delivery. Cash or check is fine.

What is added to the base price?

The base price includes the driver’s flight and ground transportation. Fuel and tolls are added at actual cost, with receipts.

Insurance and safety

Our insurance statements, as written by our attorney:

Is my vehicle insured during auto transport?

Absolutely. We provide insurance coverage for every vehicle we transport, giving you peace of mind from pickup to delivery.

What happens in the event of an accident?

First, you are notified immediately. Secondly, information on both parties involved would be exchanged, a police report would be attained, and the cost of the repairs would be covered under the owner’s insurance deductible. If the accident is caused by our driver leading to an insurance claim, Cross Country Driver would gladly reimburse the owner up to $500 towards the policy’s deductible. To date, Cross Country Driver has never had an accident, and we are very proud of it.

What about the insurance on the trip generally?

Choosing a service

How do I find someone to drive my car across country?

Start with a quote. Request a Vehicle Quote with the pickup and delivery addresses, and the owner prices your trip personally and replies within one business day.

How do I hire someone to drive my car across the country?

Request a quote, approve the price and agree a pickup date; one vetted driver then takes the car door to door. Before you book with any company, ask who the driver will be, how drivers are vetted and what the price includes.

What is a driveaway service?

A driver drives your vehicle to its destination rather than carrying it on a truck. It avoids loading, unloading and transfers, and lets you send a reasonable amount of personal items in the car.

Is hiring a driver cheaper than shipping?

Usually not; a carrier is cheaper on most routes. A driver gives you a pickup window and delivery date planned with you, door-to-door handling by one person, and room for a reasonable amount of personal items.
