How It Works: From Quote to Your Door
Hiring a driver from Cross Country Driver takes six steps: you request a quote, the owner prices it personally, you approve it, we schedule pickup, your driver inspects and photographs the car and drives it about 1,000 miles a day, and you get the keys at the destination with the fuel and toll receipts.

Step 1: Request a quote
Fill in the form with the pickup and delivery city, state and ZIP, the year, make and model, and roughly when you want it moved. The owner prices every trip personally and replies within one business day. Moving a rental truck? See how a truck trip works.
Step 2: Approve the price
Your quote shows a base price for the driver, the driver’s travel and any towing, plus an estimate of fuel and tolls. See how trips are priced.
Step 3: Before pickup
- Send proof that the vehicle is insured and registered. Our exact insurance statements, as written by our attorney, are on the FAQ page.
- Sign a short service agreement.
- A deposit is due before pickup. The rest of the base price, plus fuel and tolls at actual cost with receipts, is paid after delivery. Cash or check is fine.
- Have the car in safe running condition with your personal items loaded.
Step 4: Pickup and inspection
Your driver arrives at the agreed time, walks the vehicle with you, notes its condition and photographs it. Then the trip starts. Meet the drivers.
Step 5: On the road
About 1,000 miles a day with proper rest; a coast-to-coast trip takes 3 days or less. Every trip is GPS-monitored by our office. Your driver will call about eight hours before delivery to confirm the time. If you want an update sooner, ask.
Step 6: Delivery
Your driver walks the car with you again, photographs it, and hands over the keys and the fuel and toll receipts.
What it costs
The base price is $0.75 to $1.25 a mile. The base price includes the driver’s flight and ground transportation. Fuel and tolls are added at actual cost, with receipts.
Questions about the process
How far in advance should I book?
A week or two is comfortable. Rush trips are possible.
What if the weather is bad?
Our drivers do not drive in unsafe conditions. A weather delay can add a few hours to a northern route in winter; we tell you as soon as we know.
What happens if the car breaks down?
We carry a premium AAA package, which may cover initial towing. We will get the car to a dealership for its make or an approved garage and keep you informed.
What happens in the event of an accident?
Our exact insurance statements, as written by our attorney, are on the FAQ page. We have never had an accident.
Can I track the car myself?
GPS monitoring is handled by our office, and you can have an update whenever you ask. Your driver also calls before delivery.
